As many of you know, my drivers license has been suspended for 6 months from the 25th of July, 2008 for speeding. The Incident: For a road trip with CYC to Port Macquarie, I was scheduled to drive a car full of people up after they finished work. I left Sydney at 6pm and was driving along the Pacific Highway when at 9:43pm I was pulled over by police for speeding about 100km south of Port Macquarie. I was caught driving 45km/h over the speed limit (160km/h in a 110 zone) and my license was suspended for 6 months and fined $1674. In adddition i was caught driving in the overtaking lane and fined an additional $243. Then CY (not CYC) drove my car for the remainder of the trip. When i got home, I paided the $243 fine but decided to send the $1674 fine to the court to be appealed. Court Appearance 1: Then in August, i decided to try to appeal the fine at Burwood local court except that was a complete waste of time. I found out that because i was suspended directly by the police, the local court had no jurisdication over my case. So i wasted a whole day at court. Even worse was that it took longer than i thought so that i missed Tuesday Cell (remember i am the cellgroup leader for Tuesday cell). Court Appearance 2: Then in October my appeal came back with a court appearance at Forster local court on November the 5th. Initially was thinking of attending (although it would require a Countrylink train to Taree then a coach to Forster) in person. In the end i had an exam that day so couldnt make it so instead i sent a letter. About a week later, i received that they reduced my fine to $1674 to $1600. But as the court fees cost an additional $73, i really only saved $1. But now i had the option of paying in fortnightly installments with a minimum of $100. I finally got off my butt about 2 weeks later and went to Burwood local court and told them my payment option was to pay $100 every fortnight (which was accepted). Then i would finally pay off my fine next July which is a whole year after the incident. I do have the money in the bank, but i would rather have it spend as much time in my netbank account gaining interested since my fine would not increase. Although i admit my Mazda 3 has some power with its 2.2L engine, i honestly have no idea how i managed to reach 160km. The road was straight and smooth so i must of been building speed gradually. I know it wasnt because i was pressing the accelerator too hard because i hate the sound the engine makes when i rev it up. Plus I recently went on a trip with CYC (not CY) down to Mollymook (about 250km south of Sydney) and he was driving my Mazda 3 but did not exceed 120km/h (CYC has the same mentality as me when it comes to speeding) |
